How to Pray for the First Time
Prayer is simply talking with God. You do not need special words, a church building, or a perfect life. God already knows you and He wants to hear from you.
- Find a quiet spot and take a slow breath. Tell God, "I am here."
- Be honest. Tell Him what you are feeling, even if it is doubt or fear.
- Thank Him for one thing, however small.
- Ask Him for what you need, and for what someone you love needs.
- Close in the name of Jesus, the One who opens the way to the Father.
A prayer to begin a relationship with Jesus
If you have never asked Jesus to be your Savior, you can do that right now. There is nothing magic about these words. What matters is your heart. If you mean it, pray this:
Father, I come to You as I am. I know I have sinned and I cannot fix that on my own. I believe Jesus is Your Son, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that You raised Him from the dead. Jesus, I ask You to forgive me and to be the Lord of my life. I receive Your gift of grace. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me follow You every day. Thank You for loving me and bringing me home. In Jesus' name, amen.
If you prayed that prayer, welcome to the family of God. Tell someone you trust, find a Bible-teaching church near you, and start reading the Gospel of John. We would love to hear from you too.
